My thoughts on Quiet Quitting

The term “quiet quitters” is used to describe employees choosing not to go above and beyond at work.

As a Gallup poll reveals, “quiet quitters make up at least 50 percent of the U.S. workforce, probably more.”

I find this unsettling for several reasons:

1. There is immense joy in having meaningful goals and working hard to achieve them at work and in life. Purpose fuels passion. We grow by TRYING and GIVING OUR ALL to whatever we are doing, and I don’t see the point of doing anything if you’re not going to try your hard at it. We feel our best when we TRY our best. The JOY lies within the JOURNEY.

2. We spend half of our waking weekday hours at work. If you dislike your job that much where you are only willing to do the bare minimum to keep it, why not put the effort into changing jobs and finding something you actually enjoy? Or go off on your own and become a solopreneur where you don’t have to be accountable to a company or boss. There are more opportunities than ever before to thrive at work or on your own, but it requires knowing your worth, believing in yourself, and  making a change

3. As a general rule, how you do one thing is how you do everything! If you’re going to do the bare minimum at work, this likely will translate to other areas in life, such as health, relationships, finances, etc. I would definitely view quiet quitting differently if I knew that a quiet quitter was working hard outside of their jobs on their side hustle, business, or finding their next venture. But I’m afraid this may not be the case for many quiet quitters.

4. Happiness comes primarily from three areas: Connection, Growth, and Contribution. If you aren’t connecting, growing, and contributing at work you will likely feel a major void which can affect mood, morale, or overall happiness both inside and outside of work. While this void can certainly be filled outside of work with family, friends, and community, why not have it all and actually ENJOY where you work and what you do?

If you are a quiet quitter and completely happy with your situation both inside and outside of work, then more power to you! To each his own.

But if you are quiet quitting because you can’t stand your job, company, boss, or don’t feel aligned to what you do, it’s time to make a change.

Life is way too short to settle.

In today’s video I share my thoughts on quiet quitting in detail.
