Overcoming Limiting Beliefs
What’s holding you back from achieving your full potential in sales is not what you think.
It’s not your selling skills, territory, product, or manager.
It’s not your work ethic, habits, or lack of focus.
While all of these things can hinder your success, there’s something much bigger that’s holding most people back.
It’s your LIMITING BELIEFS.
As Henry Ford so eloquently stated, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right”
Here’s why beliefs are the foundation of everything that follows.
What you believe determines how you feel.
How you feel determines your actions
And your actions determine your results.
So your beliefs directly lead to your results.
Here’s an example:
If I’m a seller, and I don’t believe that I can crush it in my role for any number of reasons, then I won’t feel inspired to take the right actions that determine my success.
And even if I force myself to take the right actions, my energy will be very different than when I’m inspired and excited while taking those actions.
In essence, I will be “going through the motions.”
And energy is infectious. If sales is a transfer of energy, then you are in trouble if you’re going through the motions.
On the other hand, if I believe I have a great opportunity to crush my number, then I will lean into doing the hard things every day that lead to success, rather than resisting them.
And my energy while doing them will be high, which will inevitably lead to my success, as long as I stay consistent and have the right plan in place.
So if you have limiting beliefs that are discouraging you from showing up FULLY every day, you are hurting your chances of succeeding in a major way.
So how do you overcome limiting beliefs?
I recently led a Mastermind at Lake Arrowhead, which was centered around identifying limiting beliefs, shattering them, and turning them into empowering beliefs.
The theme of the Mastermind was called “Limitless.”
I use a framework from Byron Katie called The Four Questions, which allows you to examine your limiting beliefs in detail, understand their impact, and explore how these beliefs are holding you back.
Here are the four questions you can use for inquiry:
- Is the belief true?
- Can you absolutely know it’s true?
- How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought
- Who would you be without the thought
The best part is that the framework is the “turnaround,” which is an exercise used to turn the limiting belief into an empowering belief that serves you rather than debilitates you.
In this week’s video training, I share how to use the four questions to overcome any limiting belief you have, and demonstrate the turnaround in action.
If you struggle with staying positive, you’re definitely gonna want to watch this training.
